Topical Review of Quantum Materials and Heterostructures Studied by Polarized Neutron Reflectometry

A review of the applications polarized neutron reflectometry (PNR) for investigation quantum materials is provided. Recent studies superconductors, strongly correlated oxides, hydrogen-induced modifications, topological insulators and chiral magnets are highlighted. The PNR technique uses a beam spin-polarized neutrons to measure nanomagnetic structure thin films heterostructures, with sensitivity magnetization at scale 10–2000 emu cm−3 vertical spatial resolution 1–500 nm. From simple beginnings studying magnetic flux penetration superconducting surfaces, today widely used investigating many different types film structures, interfaces, 2D materials. measurements can reveal number details about magnetic, electronic, properties, in tandem chemical information including stoichiometry light elements such as oxygen hydrogen.
